When it comes to the maintenance and repair of existing fluid filled, polymeric insulated cable systems in the UK, Prysmian has the greatest experience in installing and maintaining high‑voltage, pressurised fluid filled cable systems and polymeric cable systems since their first introduction into the market. Prysmian is unique within the UK cable network maintenance sector because we combine our manufacturing units, jointing and fluid technician training school, and high‑voltage and chemical laboratories to support all maintenance activities. Our Maintenance Business, Energy Network Solutions (ENS), undertakes a wide range of activities to support our customers and keep the power on. An integral part of ENS is the Civils Team, which works throughout the UK on activities related to faults, maintenance and new installations of high‑voltage cables and accessories.
We are currently looking for a Civils Technician who will report to the Area Manager. The role involves working on projects across the UK and requires frequent travel.
Responsibilities:
- Setting out and undertaking all ground works for new underground cable installation and maintenance of the existing high‑voltage electricity network.
- Liaising with third parties such as scaffolders, shot blasters and traffic‑management contractors.
- Achieving required training, including Distribution Network Operators substation access and holding Safety documents; supervising the working party on site and working closely with local engineers; driving a telehandler and MEWP; assisting with general yard duties.
- Contributing to a safe working environment by inputting into site documentation and adhering to policies and standards.
- Working under the direct instruction of the Project Engineer in charge of the works to fulfil the schedule of works required in line with cost, time and quality.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Good communication skills and an aptitude for team working are essential.
- A valid UK driving licence is mandatory, and the successful candidate must be willing to work away during weekdays, weekends or bank holidays as required by the works programme.
- Desirable experience includes working in electrical substations and knowledge of the high‑voltage industry.
- Current DNO authorisations, IPAF licence, telehandler licence and SSSTS are advantageous.
