M&G plc and its subsidiaries operate in a complex and highly regulated environment. It is critical that we manage our engagement with our regulators to the highest standard. The Regulatory Engagement team, which sits within the Risk & Compliance function, is central to M&G meeting this outcome. This is a senior role within the team reporting into the Director of Regulatory Affairs. In particular, this role focuses on managing the regulatory relationships with the PRA and supports the Director of Regulatory Affairs in:
- the implementation of M&G Plc’s regulatory engagement strategy through management, coordination and oversight of the business’s engagement with the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA)
- working with relevant subsidiaries to provide appropriate oversight and leadership of all regulatory relationships in all jurisdictions in which the business operates, to ensure systemic regulatory themes are identified, managed and escalated as appropriate.
Key role specific accountabilities
- Support the Director of Regulatory Affairs in delivery of the Group’s proactive regulatory engagement strategy.
- Act as a trusted adviser to key contacts across the business on regulatory matters, maintaining strong relationships with relevant stakeholders and supporting them in their proactive and reactive engagements with regulators.
- On behalf of the Director of Regulatory Affairs, coordinate the “day to day” interactions with the regulators’ Supervisory teams, playing a key role in each stage of the regulatory engagement lifecycle for the business including:
- Maintaining a record of all regulatory contacts / engagement, recording and following up on actions arising from engagement with the regulators.
- Preparing briefing notes for individuals attending regulatory meetings, and acting as note taker to ensure there is an accurate record of the meeting.
- Coordinating and developing high quality and timely responses to requests from the regulators as well as provision of regular MI.
- Working with SMEs within the business, to review, provide input and guidance to shape materials before these are submitted to ensure that the regulators’ expectations are met.
- Provide guidance and advice to business contacts in connection with issues which will (or may) require notification to the regulators.
- Demonstrating sound judgment; provide high quality input, guidance and insight to ensure the regulators’ expectations are met, as well as consistency across responses.
- Work collaboratively with the rest of the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure there is a seamless and consistent approach to regulatory engagement across M&G plc.
- Where required, provide input to projects on the regulatory impacts of the project, ensuring there is appropriate and timely visibility to the regulators, allowing the opportunity for questions to be raised.
Key knowledge, skills and experience
- Extensive regulatory experience (ideally gained through work at the PRA and/or within the industry), including a deep appreciation and understanding of the regulatory environment and the regulators’ supervisory approach. (Essential)
- Good knowledge of the regulators’ rules (strong preference for PRA) and the structure of their handbooks as well as an understanding of the regulatory environment in the countries the business has significant operations. (Essential)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and both writing and verbal communication skills. (Essential)
- Ability to manage multiple, and changing, priorities, to ensure the regulators’ requests are addressed in a timely manner. (Essential)
- Seasoned Compliance professional, with a strong track record within complex, global financial services businesses.
- Significant experience in influencing and negotiating, with the ability to resolve differences to a satisfactory resolution.
- Excellent analytical skills - ability to review and challenge materials produced by colleagues, identify trends and hot spots from complex data and clearly articulate insights and propose a proportionate response, including the appropriate use of AI.
- Strong presentation skills, including the ability to articulate and convey concepts and ideas to stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
- Adept at nurturing and promoting effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders – highly collaborative with an outward approach.
- Delivery and outcome focused, possessing high levels of resilience and determination, as well as a dynamic individual who demonstrates strong initiative.
