Our purpose is to give everyone real confidence to put their money to work. With a heritage dating back more than 175 years, we have a long history of innovation in savings and investments, combining asset management and insurance expertise to offer a wide range of solutions. Our two distinct operating segments, Asset Management and Life, work together to provide access to balanced, long-term investment and savings solutions.
M&G is making material investments in its digital and data capabilities, to improve customer experience, streamline processes, improve controls and embed data in the way the organisation operates. We are ramping up a Group‑wide data transformation initiative to drive material improvements in complex, cross‑functional business processes operating across Asset Management, Life Insurance and Finance, through better access to data and the use of advanced analytics and AI. The initiative delivers high‑impact, data‑driven use cases in successive, time‑boxed business waves. Each wave progressively upgrades data foundations and business capabilities, while enabling the re‑engineering of key processes and building momentum across the organisation.
The Business Architect will play a central role in shaping this transformation, defining the target business capabilities, data‑driven processes and operating models that underpin each wave, ensuring coherence from strategic intent through to delivery and adoption.
The Business Architect is responsible for shaping how the organisation designs and evolves its business processes and capabilities where data, analytics and AI are core enablers. Working across multiple business areas, the role translates strategy into clear business architectures that can be delivered incrementally through defined waves, balancing immediate business outcomes with long‑term capability build. The role operates at the intersection of business, data, technology and change, ensuring that transformation initiatives are architected in a way that is scalable, reusable and aligned to the Group’s strategic objectives.
Key Accountabilities for this Role:
- Define and maintain business capability models, value streams and target operating models aligned to the Group Data Transformation strategy.
- Architect end‑to‑end, data‑driven business processes, including those enabled by advanced analytics and AI, ensuring clarity of outcomes, decision‑points and controls.
- Support the development of transformation roadmaps into coherent, time‑boxed business waves, identifying dependencies, sequencing, and trade‑offs across people, process, data and technology.
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Product, Data, Technology and Change teams to ensure architectural intent is translated effectively into delivery.
- Provide architectural direction and assurance across initiatives, ensuring alignment to agreed principles, standards and target states.
- Support the design and evolution of reusable data products and business capabilities, reducing duplication and accelerating future waves.
- Engage senior stakeholders across Asset Management, Life Insurance and Finance to build shared understanding, confidence and commitment to data‑led and AI‑enabled change.
- Contribute to the transition from contractor‑led delivery to sustainable internal capability, embedding consistent business architecture practices and artefacts.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Significant experience in business architecture, including capability modelling, business process architecture and operating model design.
- Proven experience working on large, cross‑functional transformation initiatives in financial services or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of how data, analytics and AI enable business outcomes and change the design of processes and decision‑making.
- Experience structuring complex change into deliverable waves, balancing pace, risk and long‑term value.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity, working across organisational boundaries and influencing without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex concepts and present them clearly to senior stakeholders.
Key Behaviours:
- Outcome‑focused – designs architectures that enable real delivery and adoption, not just conceptual models.
- Collaborative – works closely with delivery, data and change teams to ensure joined‑up outcomes.
- Pragmatic – balances strategic intent with what can be delivered in each wave.
- Resilient – maintains clarity and momentum in complex, high‑profile transformation environments.
- Hands‑on – actively involved in shaping and guiding work, not operating solely at a distance.
