We are seeking a skilled and motivated Shift Technician to join our in-house Facilities Management team, working a rotating days and nights shift pattern within a mission-critical data centre environment. This role is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and first-line response to critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime, resilience, and operational excellence. As part of a 24/7 engineering team, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, respond to critical incidents, oversee specialist contractors, and support switching activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure to ensure continuous service availability.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across site systems.
  • Perform routine operational rounds, inspections, and equipment checks, identifying faults and taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Respond to alarms, plant failures, and emergency situations, providing first-line fault diagnosis and escalation where required.
  • Support electrical and mechanical switching activities in accordance with approved procedures and operational standards.
  • Operate Building Management Systems (BMS) and other monitoring platforms to identify trends and maintain optimal plant performance.
  • Issue, receive, and manage Permit to Work documentation and ensure safe systems of work are adhered to.
  • Supervise specialist contractors and vendors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs, incident reports, and asset information using the CMMS.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
  • Handover operational information effectively between shifts to maintain continuity of service.
  • Support emergency response activities and contribute to maintaining the resilience of a 24/7 critical environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience within Facilities Management, Building Services, Critical Facilities, or Data Centre environments.
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechanical building services.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating days and nights shift pattern.
