Technical Sales Engineer
Position: Technical Sales Engineer
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Location: Worcestershire
Salary: circa £40K plus Performance bonus (paid twice yearly in June & December payslip), Plus Flexitime (employees can choose their working pattern)
PRS Engineering has engaged with a new client and a leading Oil & Gas Equipment Manufacturer based in the Worcestershire area. Due to team expansion and booming industry, we are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer on a permanent basis.
Summary of Job:
- To ensure the ongoing and continuous improvement, development and consequent growth of the company with respect to sales by maintaining good working relationships with clients and agents
- To investigate potential markets and customers
- To visit/entertain clients on occasion, especially where bid clarification meetings are required
- To ensure all incoming sales enquiries are instigated efficiently and articulately within lead times and to the satisfaction of the client
- To ensure sales targets are achieved and improved upon, where possible
- To facilitate achievable deliveries, where possible
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Shall be fully committed to the achievement of company policies and objectives with special respect to quality and safety
- To win orders and maximise profit for equipment, especially that of a non-standard, bespoke project nature
- To ensure that quotations prepared are competitive, well presented both technically and commercially and are accurate and in accordance with customer requirements
- To clearly highlight deviations from enquiry specifications, such that Contract Review and Order Processing may be carried out in an efficient and systematic manner
- To highlight benefits, advantages and ongoing savings possible when clients purchase equipment
- To carry out preliminary mechanical design of equipment, including production of initial design calculations to determine vessel thicknesses and construction details, etc. where bespoke equipment is required, thus enabling cost effective quotations to be produced
- To ensure customer satisfaction is maximised with respect to design and achievable delivery schedules
- To ensure quotations are prepared in a timely manner and in line with customer requirements, good communication is maintained with the client throughout the quotation period, advising of any delays, problems or developments concerning enquiries
- Responsible for the calculation of accurate costings and realistic delivery lead times, where time permits, thus ensuring quotations achieve a high level of competitiveness yet maximise profitability
- To request extensions to bid deadlines, where the requested date cannot be achieved
- To organise, schedule and prioritise the submission of bids in the absence of the Sales Manager
- To attend to bid clarifications and queries from clients, giving commercially and technically satisfactory responses
- To produce enquiries and provide quotations for factored products associated to the range
- Responsible for continuously developing product and applications knowledge of the company’s product range by attending product training sessions, studying company product and training literature and liaising closely with the Engineering department and sub-vendors
- Responsible for developing a good knowledge of customers’ businesses, contract, markets, existing and future projects
- To build and maintain good working relationships with customers and agents
- To carry out contract reviews in accordance with in-house procedures on successful quotes/orders, resulting in a clear and detailed hand-over of contracts to the Engineering and Production departments
- Responsible for ensuring that enquiry files are well maintained in accordance with in-house procedures
- To carry out additional duties, as may become necessary, to ensure the smooth running of the sales operation and as part of ongoing improvements and development
- To undertake reasonable instructions and tasks from senior personnel, commensurate with the nature of the job and in the best interests of the company
Qualifications/Experience:
- GCSE minimum grade 4/5 (or equivalent Grade C) in English and Maths
- HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equal/higher
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Previous technical experience in sales/customer service preferred

Hours of Work:
Office hours enable flexi-time working, covering a 37-hour week. Flexible start and finish times are available with core hours which must be covered each day. Monday to Thursday covers an 8-hour shift and Friday covers a 5-hour shift.
