We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the engineering and building services function at a flagship retail and leisure destination in Wembley. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and people-focused engineering leader to take ownership of a high-profile site, ensuring all mechanical, electrical and building systems operate safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards — supporting an exceptional guest and retailer experience.
The Role
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will lead the onsite engineering team and take full responsibility for the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across the centre. This is a hands-on leadership role within a live retail environment, requiring strong technical expertise, compliance knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and manage the onsite Maintenance Team
- Oversee delivery of PPM schedules and reactive works
- Ensure full statutory compliance (LOLER, PUWER, electrical safety, water hygiene, etc.)
- Manage specialist contractors and permit-to-work systems
- Maintain asset registers, statutory certification, and compliance documentation
- Monitor M&E and building fabric performance, identifying risks and investment needs
- Ensure accurate CMMS reporting and job closure
- Conduct audits and inspections across plant rooms and public areas
- Manage engineering budgets and procurement activities
- Support emergency response and out-of-hours engineering incidents
- Promote a proactive Health & Safety culture
- Work collaboratively with operations, security, cleaning, guest services and centre management
- Support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives
About You
We are seeking a confident engineering leader with experience in retail, commercial, or leisure environments. You will bring:
- Proven experience managing maintenance teams
- Strong technical knowledge of M&E services (HVAC, water systems, controls)
- Solid understanding of statutory compliance and safe systems of work
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving ability
- Experience using CMMS and digital reporting systems
- A customer-focused mindset suited to a live public environment
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH
- BMS experience
- Energy or sustainability exposure
- Multi-service FM contractor management experience
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)
- IPAF / PASMA
