We are currently looking for a detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator with a passion for mechanical services. They are a growing mechanical and electrical services business, where the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective mechanical solutions across a variety of exciting projects.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed and competitive cost estimates for mechanical services packages, including but not limited to HVAC, pipework, plumbing and controls for commercial construction projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure our bids are accurate, timely, and competitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements and develop accurate cost estimates.
- Conduct site surveys, when required, to assess project conditions and support the tendering process.
- Perform detailed material and labour take-offs for plumbing, public health, and piping systems using estimating software.
- Source, evaluate, and manage quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitiveness and compliance.
- Contribute to bid strategies, offering cost-saving initiatives and value engineering proposals where applicable.
- Participate in project handover meetings to facilitate a seamless transition from pre-construction to the delivery team.
- Maintain and update estimating tools, pricing databases, and cost records to ensure accuracy and efficiency in future tenders.
Candidate Requirements:
- 5+ years' experience in mechanical services estimating with a primary base good understanding of mechanical pipework and associated systems.
- Strong ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
- Estimating mechanical services projects up to £5 million in value.
- Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Ensign) or similar platform.
- Microsoft literate, with experience in Microsoft Office Word/Excel.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
- Minimum ONC or Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Building Services Engineering or equal equivalent.
Future Prospects
The successful candidate will be taking lead on estimating and tendering alongside the company Directors. Long-term aspiration to build an estimating team as the company grows.
