Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias)
Location: Hertfordshire / Essex / London Docklands
Salary: £48,000 – £52,000 + Bonus and Benefits
Shift Pattern: Continental Days and Nights 5 am – 5 pm
Position Overview: We are seeking a Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our expanding team at a state-of-the-art Data Centre. This role offers long-term career stability and progression within a rapidly growing and future-proof industry.
You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and oversight of all critical infrastructure systems, including HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems. The position involves working with a team of skilled engineers, ensuring 100% uptime and delivering services to the highest industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Operations & Maintenance: Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across all critical systems, including electrical, HVAC, and mechanical infrastructure.
- Monitor and troubleshoot BMS, PMS, and CMS systems, ensuring site operations meet SLA and uptime requirements.
- Respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and conduct emergency repairs as necessary.
- Maintain evaporative cooling systems and domestic water systems to comply with L8 standards.
- Supervise engineering subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual commitments and site protocols.
- Manage and enforce controls within the Permit to Work systems.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with statutory and contractual deliverables.
- Technical Oversight & Commissioning: Oversee M&E vendors delivering electrical and HVAC services, ensuring compliance with MOP/SOP/EOP procedures.
- Assist with commissioning and witness infrastructure upgrades and enhancements, including new facilities.
- Manage the Permit to Work system, ensuring all RAMS are accurate and compliant.
- Support and coordinate P1/P2/P3 incidents with shift managers and the Data Centre Manager.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain site logbooks and statutory compliance records.
- Perform dynamic risk assessments and ensure all tasks comply with health and safety regulations.
- Prepare and review Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for in-house and contractor works.
- Ensure up-to-date documentation and maintenance records, including REALM task sheets.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the main point of contact for client services, attending planning meetings and fostering positive relationships.
- Collaborate with the Data Centre Manager and shift teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Deliver clear communication during shift handovers through logs, emails, and status boards.
- Technical Responsibilities: Electrical Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot single-phase and three-phase systems, control panels, UPS, and power generators.
- HVAC Systems: Service and repair AHUs, FCUs, split systems, chillers, and variable speed drives.
- Fire & Safety Systems: Oversee fire suppression and detection systems and ensure proper maintenance.
- Water Treatment: Manage open/closed chilled water systems to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Incident Management: Provide support for unplanned incidents or faults on-site.
Qualifications
- C&G Level 3 or equivalent in electrical services/maintenance.
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
- Emergency First Aid at Work certification.
- HV Approved Person or equivalent (desirable).
- Confined Space Entry training (as required).
- Manual Handling Training (advantageous).
Skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure.
- Ability to prepare Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and perform dynamic risk assessments.
- IT literate with experience using CAFM systems.
