The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Technical Supervisor to act as the senior technical authority across AOV and smoke ventilation systems. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring systems are fully compliant, correctly configured and capable of performing under real-world fire conditions—protecting life, maintaining safe escape routes and supporting emergency response. You will oversee complex fault diagnosis, commissioning validation and system performance while supporting and developing engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Authority & Escalation
- Act as the primary escalation point for Level 1–3 Engineers
- Lead complex fault diagnosis across panels, devices, wiring and system interfaces
- Provide expert guidance across AOV and smoke ventilation systems
- Interpret and validate cause & effect against fire strategy
- Ensure correct system sequencing, configuration and fail-safe operation
- Maintain compliance with BS EN 12101, BS 9999 and manufacturer standards
- Oversee commissioning and system validation
- Verify control logic, performance and integration with fire alarms, dampers, fans and BMS systems
- Support panel configuration and system adjustments where required
- Work across specialist systems including Colt, Advanced Air, Actionair and SE Controls
- Diagnose faults across control panels, I/O signals and system logic
- Ensure systems operate effectively to control smoke movement and maintain safe conditions
- Review and approve inspection reports, commissioning records and remedial recommendations
- Conduct technical audits and site quality checks
- Maintain high standards of documentation and system traceability
- Supervise and mentor engineering teams
- Support training, competency development and CPD delivery
- Drive continuous improvement in technical standards
- Liaise with clients, consultants and contractors on technical matters
- Provide expert advice on system performance, compliance and lifecycle considerations
What We’re Looking For
- Experience & Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience in AOV and smoke ventilation systems
- Strong knowledge of Colt, Advanced Air, Actionair and SE Controls
- Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability
- Strong understanding of control systems, cause & effect and system integration
- Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and system drawings
- Strong leadership and decision-making ability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- High attention to detail with a focus on safety and compliance
- Proactive, solutions-driven and technically credible
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Experience commissioning smoke control systems
- Knowledge of BMS systems (Trend, Siemens, Honeywell or similar)
- IPAF / PASMA
- Familiarity with CAFM systems
