This role is strictly for an experienced Senior Data Centre Design Manager. Candidates without senior-level, hyperscale data centre design management experience will not be considered.
We are seeking a Senior Data Centre Design Manager (Mechanical) to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design delivery across large-scale, mission-critical data centre developments in Europe. This is a hands-on senior leadership role, responsible for owning the design process from early concept and permitting through construction, commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST), within an owner-operator development environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage multi-disciplinary design teams (CSA, MEPH, ICT) on hyperscale data centre projects
- Act as the senior technical authority for mechanical systems while coordinating all other disciplines
- Manage and review Basis of Design (BoD), drawings, specifications and design deliverables
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, change control and design gating processes
- Own the design schedule, aligning with procurement, tender and construction milestones
- Interface with contractors, commissioning agents, vendors, authorities and internal stakeholders
- Manage design change, risk, cost and programme impacts
- Co-manage commissioning activities and lead Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Support value engineering, vendor selection and OFCI equipment specifications
- Senior-level experience as a Data Centre Design Manager is mandatory
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
- Strong background in data centre or highly serviced, mission-critical buildings
- Proven delivery of large-scale developments (€250m+)
- Extensive experience managing hyperscale, multi-disciplinary design teams
- Strong understanding of CSA, MEPH and ICT integration
- Experience with commissioning and complex building systems (liquid cooling knowledge highly desirable)
- Familiarity with BIM, ACC/BIM 360, Revit, Bluebeam and design governance processes
- Ability to confidently challenge, defend and communicate technical decisions at senior level
- Willingness to travel internationally (up to ~25%)
- Not a junior or mid-level Design Manager role
- Not discipline-only or consultancy-support focused
- This is a true senior owner-side data centre design leadership position
