The Lead Engineer / Data Centre Supervisor directs on a daily basis the Technical Operations Site Team, its associated activities, and Vendors to ensure that the Data Centre is operated and maintained safely, within SLA, and with minimal risk. As the main point of contact, the Lead Engineer / Data Centre Supervisor undertakes the day-to-day management of all activities of the Technical Operations Site Team which consists of 8 shift Engineers and Technical Day staff ensuring that all reactive and planned maintenance tasks are delivered to agreed timelines and SLAs/KPIs with full utilisation of CMMS system and incidents are dealt with appropriately.
Reporting directly to the Data Centre Manager and responsible for that all works on site are carried out in line with the appropriate safe system of works and permit system.
Provide first-line response to all building services infrastructure and escalate to third(1)party specialist contractors where specialist knowledge and skills are required. Responsible for the successful completion of planned and reactive maintenance on the building services infrastructure.
Responsible for that all works on site are carried out by the Site Teams whereby the Senior Site Engineering Manager is responsible for people management of the Site Engineers. Internal stakeholder contacts are mainly with Service Planning and Security Services. External contact with suppliers and customers. Is the HV Authorised Person (HV Approved Person -AP) and takes a significant role with switching (and its associated planning)
The Lead Engineer works closely with the Senior Site Engineering Manager to ensure the Site is operated and maintained safely, within SLA, and with minimal risk. This is critical to customers.
Responsibilities and roles for this position
• Ensure all works on site are carried out in line with the appropriate safe system of works and permit system.
Assisted by the Site Engineers, providing the first-line response to all building services infrastructure and escalating to third-party specialist contractors where specialist knowledge and skills are required.
• Ensure successful completion of planned and reactive maintenance on the building services infrastructure, utilising the CMMS systems and adhering to DLR processes and SOPs.
• Monitor compliance to SLA deliverables to the client areas within the Data Centre.
• Assist the Data Centre Manager / Senior Site Engineering Manager / Service Planning Coordinator- Manager in regard to communication with customer representatives during day-to-day operations and incident escalation.
• Co-ordinate the management of incidents and produce and issue building incident reports and utilising the CMMS system
Operate the defined Service Operations processes and work within site-specific standard operating procedures.
• Undertake duties as required as an HV Authorised Person in all aspects required in the operation of an operational facility, from safe isolations to issuing of permits to work.
• Co-ordinate plant start-ups and shutdowns after major maintenance activities or post-repair.
• Develop and review operating procedures for both general and emergency use.
• Complete event logs and perform administrative recording duties during the working day for the purpose of rotating shift staff and providing management information.
• Ensure all tasks meet statutory compliance and testing is completed, and that any identified non-compliance areas have corrective actions put in place which are addressed within required timescales.
• With assistance from Site Engineers, provide first-line supervision of Specialist Service Contractors, including Induction and signing off and actioning minor works listed on service report sheets in collaboration with the central Service Planning Team.
• Responsible for ensuring all sub-contractors working in operational areas are supervised to work within the agreed limitation of their work permits, RAMS, MOP, and site rules.
• Assist the Site Management Team as requested, including but not limited to the provision of technical information for reports, root cause analysis during day-to-day operations, and incident escalations.
• Coordinate and direct on-site staffing resources from a daily perspective to ensure information between teams is communicated effectively.
• Work with Senior Site Engineering Manager to ensure holidays and sickness are always covered
• Provide Technical Support to the team ensuring that the site is run safely, efficiently, and in line with industry best practices and to relevant country compliance standards in line with company policy, carrying out audits and checks.
• To be involved on a day-to-day basis with assisting with financial systems in respect of ordering and following up with repairs and remedial works.
• To proactively monitor and improve the operation of building systems to ensure optimum performance with a clear focus on energy efficiency and continuous improvement.

• To be part of out of hours escalation process

• Supports and backup the Site Engineers
• Supports and deputises for the Senior Site Engineering Manager

Qualifications
• 3-5 years experience working in mission-critical mechanical & electrical environments within a large company, IT/Telecoms industry preferred
• Experience in data centres or a similar environment is essential
• Knowledge of key infrastructure components of DCs (like UPS’s, Generators, and Cooling systems)
• Recognised formal electrical training (City and Guilds etc.).
• Experience and Knowledge of the Operation of Critical Building infrastructure (Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Fabric)
• AP15 course and experience as an HV Authorised Person
• Ability to read and preferably work with Electrical and Mechanical diagrams
• Experience with maintenance and maintenance systems
• ITIL and/or Service Now Experience is preferred but not essential
• Can prepare & present relevant information in front of all types of audiences
