The Lead Shift Engineer will oversee both planned and reactive maintenance, coordinate resources and stakeholders, and ensure sites operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role requires technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on all mechanical and electrical plant equipment in line with site schedules and asset lists.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance tasks, identifying and implementing improvements where needed.
  • Diagnose and resolve plant faults to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Perform statutory maintenance tasks per SFG20 specifications.
  • Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and prepare parts lists and timescales for remedial tasks.
  • Issue permits for in-house and subcontractor works in line with contractual requirements.
  • Complete accurate documentation for PPM, reactive maintenance, and breakdowns, submitting to the contract administrator promptly.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Present a professional image to clients at all times.
  • Maintain plant rooms in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Ensure all work is completed with strict adherence to health & safety standards, SLAs, and KPIs.
  • Operate and manage a Permit to Work system in accordance with company, client, and SHEQ requirements.
Qualifications & Desired Experience
  • Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship (essential)
  • HNC/HND/Foundation Degree (desirable)
  • BOAS/BG01 training (desirable)
  • City & Guilds 236 A&B (2360 parts 1 & 2) or equivalent (desirable)
  • IET 17th Edition Certification (desirable)
  • City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 Electrical Testing & Inspection or HVAC qualification
  • Strong Facilities Management experience with proven operational track record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAFM systems
  • Solid knowledge of building services, legislation, and statutory requirements
  • Ability to remain calm and think clearly under pressure
  • Team-working skills and experience managing or mentoring colleagues
