Position: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) Contract: Contract – Duration 6 months (Outside IR35) Salary/Rate: Open hourly rate depending on experience – up to £60p/h Gateshead, North East (Hybrid working, 3 days office 2 days home, flexible working hours Rotating Equipment (up to 8,000 rpm) & Automotive/EV Technology PRS Engineering has engaged with a new client and leading manufacturer within best-in-class electric motors, power electronics, energy storage, and thermal equipment for all things that move. Operating in North America, Canada, the UK, and India and serves customers in global markets and industries including off highway, commercial vehicles, rail, marine, light vehicles and premium automotive. In this role the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the following: ~ Clean-sheet mechanical design and development of rotating electrical machines, transmissions and drivetrains. Design work may also include pumps, fans, power electronics and batteries as required. ~ Exploration, design development, prototyping and testing of concepts. ~ Mechanical analysis of conceptual designs (including CAE), demonstrating a strong understanding of likely component failure modes and material strengths. ~ Individually lead or contribute as a senior member within a team to deliver projects to internal or customer specifications. ~ Utilisation of best-in-class simulation software as part of the development process to optimise and analyse product behaviour. ~3D CAD modelling and 2D Engineering drawings of components and assemblies. ~ Work with other design engineers and the wider cross functional department to deliver programs. ~ Work to company and industry quality standards. Degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering Strong capability in 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawings Bonus Points Autodesk inventor and/or SolidWorks experience Working knowledge of MASTA or KISSsoft software Experience in high volume manufacturing - gravity or high-pressure casting part design Directly relevant design experience (previous motor, gear, transmission, spline or bearing life calculation experience)
