City of London | Permanent | Direct Employment

Are you an electrically biased engineer with experience in critical facilities, building services, or data centre operations looking to join one of the world's leading data centre operators?

We are recruiting on behalf of a global data centre owner-operator that continues to invest heavily in its UK operations and technical engineering teams. This is an excellent opportunity to join a directly employed maintenance and operations team responsible for supporting highly critical infrastructure within a state-of-the‑art facility in the City of London.

Offering a competitive salary, annual bonus, paid overtime, and genuine long‑term career progression, this position is ideal for engineers seeking to further develop their technical expertise within the rapidly expanding data centre sector.

The Opportunity

Data centres sit at the heart of today's digital economy, supporting cloud computing, AI, financial services, and global connectivity. As an Electrical Day Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the critical infrastructure that ensures maximum uptime, operational resilience, and safety.

Working alongside experienced engineering professionals, you will support the maintenance and operation of electrical and mechanical plant across a mission‑critical environment while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Unlike shift‑based positions, this role offers the opportunity to work within a highly technical critical environment on a permanent day schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain electrical distribution systems and associated plant.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of UPS systems, generators, transformers, switchgear, and LV/HV infrastructure.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and support root‑cause investigations.
  • Monitor and utilise Building Management Systems (BMS) and control systems.
  • Follow permit‑to‑work, safe isolation, and site safety procedures.
  • Coordinate with specialist contractors and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and compliance documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational best practice.
  • Ensure critical infrastructure remains safe, compliant, and operational at all times.

We are particularly interested in engineers with experience within:

  • Critical facilities
  • Banking and financial institutions
  • Healthcare environments
  • Pharmaceutical facilities
  • Commercial building services
  • Industrial or manufacturing environments

Applicants should possess:

  • A recognised electrical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ, Apprenticeship or equivalent).
  • Strong fault‑finding and maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and critical plant.
  • Understanding of permit‑to‑work and safe isolation procedures.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • A proactive approach to safety, reliability, and customer service.

Previous data centre experience is highly desirable but not essential for candidates with strong critical facilities or building services backgrounds.

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Electrical power distribution
  • Switchgear and transformers
  • UPS systems
  • Standby generators
  • LV and HV systems
  • HVAC plant, pumps, and chillers
  • CRAC / CRAH cooling systems
