We are seeking a skilled and proactive Day Shift Technician to join our in-house Facilities Management team, supporting the operation and maintenance of a mission-critical data centre. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, maintaining the highest standards of uptime and operational excellence.
Working as part of the site engineering team, you will perform planned preventative maintenance, respond to incidents, monitor building systems, and support contractors while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical building services.
- Monitor and maintain electrical, mechanical, HVAC, UPS, standby generator, fire detection and suppression, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Perform routine inspections, equipment checks, and operational rounds to identify and rectify faults.
- Respond to alarms, incidents, and emergency situations, ensuring prompt resolution or escalation where appropriate.
- Support electrical and mechanical switching activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Issue and manage Permit to Work documentation and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
- Supervise specialist contractors and vendors, ensuring works are completed safely and to the required standard.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and asset information within the CMMS.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and health and safety requirements.
- Support business continuity by maintaining the reliability and availability of all critical infrastructure.
- Experience working within Facilities Management, Building Services, Critical Environments, or Data Centres.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, Permit to Work systems, and risk assessments.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
