We are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join a leading facilities management team operating within a mission-critical data centre environment in Croydon.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance background to join an established technical team responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a critical facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance, responding to faults and alarms, and ensuring critical infrastructure remains operational to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the facility.
- Monitor and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Respond to equipment faults, alarms and breakdowns.
- Complete routine plant room inspections and operational checks.
- Monitor BMS and associated control systems.
- Maintain and operate critical electrical systems including UPS, generators and LV distribution.
- Support maintenance of HVAC, cooling and mechanical systems.
- Carry out fault finding and remedial works within your level of authorisation.
- Assist with testing, inspections and planned maintenance activities.
- Liaise with contractors and specialist engineering teams.
- Follow site-specific SOPs, EOPs, RAMS, Permit to Work and LOTO procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logbooks and shift documentation.
- Complete effective shift handovers and communicate outstanding issues.
- Support emergency response and incident management procedures.
- Identify potential equipment failures and elevate appropriately.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.

The role will provide exposure to a range of mission-critical infrastructure, including:
- UPS systems
- Standby generators
- LV electrical distribution
- Switchgear
- HVAC systems
- Chillers and chilled water systems
- CRAC / CRAH units
- AHUs
- BMS / controls
- Pumps and motors
- Emergency systems
- General building services
About You
We're looking for an engineer with previous experience within a data centre, critical environment, commercial, industrial or similarly complex technical facility.
You should have:
- Previous experience as a Shift Technician, Shift Engineer, Critical Facilities Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance experience.
- Experience working with critical infrastructure.
- Good knowledge of PPM and reactive maintenance.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within a shift-based engineering environment.
- Understanding of RAMS, SOPs, EOPs, LOTO and Permit to Work procedures.
- Relevant electrical or mechanical qualifications.
- A proactive approach to maintenance and operational reliability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a technical team.
