We are seeking a skilled and proactive Shift Technician to support the operation and maintenance of a mission-critical data centre environment. This role is ideal for an experienced building services or facilities professional with a strong understanding of critical infrastructure, compliance, and high-availability systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain critical building services systems within a 24/7 data centre environment.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to reactive maintenance tasks across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Monitor BMS and critical alarms, escalating issues in line with site procedures.
- Support the operation of UPS systems, generators, CRAC/CRAH units, HV/LV infrastructure, fire suppression, and cooling systems.
- Conduct routine inspections, fault finding, and first-line diagnostics to minimise downtime and operational risk.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health safety regulations, site SOPs, EOPs, and permit-to-work systems.
- Liaise with specialist subcontractors and support vendor management activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs, and incident reports.
- Participate in shift handovers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Skills Experience
- Experience working within critical environments such as data centres, hospitals, banking, utilities, or high-availability facilities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building services systems.
- Familiarity with BMS monitoring and critical infrastructure operations.
- Ability to work effectively within a rotating shift pattern.
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving capability under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
- HV/AP awareness or authorisation desirable.
- IOSH or equivalent health safety certification advantageous.
