An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Account Director to lead the delivery of Hard Facilities Management services across a prestigious, multi-site education portfolio in London. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving operational excellence, compliance, financial performance, and client satisfaction across a complex estate. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction while ensuring the highest standards of maintenance, safety, and service delivery.

The Role

As Account Director, you will take full responsibility for the management and performance of Hard FM services, ensuring facilities remain safe, compliant, efficient, and fit for purpose. You will lead a team of technical and operational professionals while building strong client relationships and delivering long-term value across the contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of all Hard FM services, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Building Fabric maintenance.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to multidisciplinary teams, driving performance, engagement, and development.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations and contractual requirements, including industry standards and best practice guidelines.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Manage contract finances, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and value improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the senior client interface, building trusted relationships and leading strategic discussions.
  • Drive continuous improvement programmes focused on safety, sustainability, operational efficiency, and service quality.
  • Oversee Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes and reactive maintenance delivery.
  • Support the mobilisation and transition of new contracts and service enhancements where required.

About You

We are looking for a commercially focused and technically credible FM leader with a proven track record of managing large-scale contracts and delivering exceptional client outcomes. You will have:

  • Demonstrable experience managing FM contracts valued at £8m, with the capability to oversee portfolios of up to £15m.
  • Strong leadership experience within Facilities Management, ideally gained within the education, public sector, healthcare, or similarly complex environments.
  • Technical qualifications in Engineering or Building Services (HNC/HND, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent).
  • Excellent knowledge of health & safety legislation, compliance frameworks, and asset lifecycle management.
  • Strong commercial awareness with proven contract and financial management expertise.
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience using CAFM systems and implementing industry best practices.

Qualifications

Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related discipline. IOSH or NEBOSH certification desirable. Professional membership with a recognised industry body such as IWFM, CIBSE, or equivalent is advantageous.
