Company Profile Our client is a leading global provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management, currently seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanical Data Centre Technician to join their high-performing team based in London Docklands.
Purpose of the Role
As an HVAC Mechanical Technician, you will support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities within a mission-critical data centre environment. Working closely with the Engineering Supervisor and day team, you will ensure that all tasks are carried out in line with health & safety legislation, site policies, and operational procedures. You will play a key role in maintaining plant and HVAC systems to the highest standards, contributing to the facility’s reliability, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on building plant, systems, and equipment in line with SLAs and client expectations.
- Respond promptly to BMS alarms and undertake emergency repairs where necessary.
- Operate within the Permit to Work system, ensuring controls are properly implemented.
- Prepare and follow switching schedules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
- Ensure availability of suitable critical spares to maintain uptime across essential systems.
- Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all in-house activities to ensure safe working.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure adherence to all contractual and safety requirements.
- Maintain positive relationships with site staff and client representatives, promoting excellent customer service.
- Ensure all work is compliant with site policies, health & safety standards, and statutory obligations.
- Support incident response and fault resolution for any unplanned events on-site.
- Contribute to a strong team culture through training, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure work packs and documentation are accurate, including reviewing subcontractor RAMS.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct, representing the company to clients and visitors.
Required Experience & Skillset
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an HVAC discipline.
- Current Wiring Regulations certification.
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar technical role within a critical environment (preferably data centres).
- Strong understanding of health & safety obligations related to engineering maintenance.
- HV experience and manual handling training (advantageous).
- Knowledge of interlinked systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Critical mechanical plant: chilled water systems, pumps, motors, ACUs, adiabatic coolers
- HVAC systems: CRAC units, split systems, air- and water-cooled chillers, dry air coolers
- Real-time incident and fault management experience in business-critical environments.
- PASMA & IPAF certifications preferred.
- Ability to ascend/descend vertical access equipment safely.
- High level of personal integrity, with a proactive and accountable attitude.
- Strong organisational and communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible regarding working hours, including the ability to support occasional shift or on-call requirements.
