An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading facilities maintenance provider working on a high-profile, mission‑critical data centre in Docklands.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically qualified engineer with strong commercial or critical‑environment experience to join a professional engineering team responsible for maintaining the site’s critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work as part of a Continental Shift Team, ensuring the data centre remains operational, safe and compliant 24/7.
Experience within a data centre, critical environment, banking, hospital, pharmaceutical or other 24/7 operational facility would be highly advantageous.
You will need strong knowledge of electrical systems, UPS, generators, LV distribution and BMS, together with a good understanding of mechanical building services.
Package: £60,000 basic salary + £3,000 shift allowance (£63,000 total package).
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
- Responding to electrical and mechanical faults and emergency callouts.
- Monitoring and maintaining critical electrical infrastructure.
- Carrying out inspections and testing of LV electrical systems and power distribution.
- Maintaining and fault‑finding on UPS systems, generators and associated critical power infrastructure.
- Working with BMS and monitoring building services systems.
- Emergency lighting testing and maintenance.
- Fault finding on electrical systems, lighting, wiring and controls.
- Supporting maintenance of AHUs, FCUs and HVAC systems.
- Assisting with routine checks of fire alarm systems and other life‑safety systems.
- Completing site logbooks, maintenance records, permits and RAMS.
- Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with site procedures, health & safety requirements and client standards.
- Attending client meetings and maintaining a professional, customer‑focused approach.
- Supporting the wider engineering team with general building services duties where required.
- Escalating critical faults appropriately and following site escalation procedures.
Requirements
- Fully electrically qualified with relevant City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 qualifications.
- 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Proven experience working within commercial building maintenance or a critical environment.
- Strong knowledge of UPS, generators, LV systems and power distribution.
- Experience working with HV/LV systems and electrical fault finding.
- Good understanding of HVAC, AHUs, FCUs and BMS.
- Experience working within a 24/7 critical environment would be highly desirable.
- Previous data centre experience would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of PPM and reactive maintenance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to complete maintenance documentation, logbooks and RAMS accurately.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a shift team.
- Professional and customer‑focused approach.
- Multi‑skilled mechanical/electrical experience is highly desirable.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
