We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support projects, operational activities, and small works across a diverse client portfolio. This is a site-based contract role, with responsibilities aligned to individual skill set and operational requirements. The role offers the opportunity to play a key part in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant engineering services across multiple sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide efficient and effective control of work services, supporting projects, operations, and small works.
- Coordinate, plan, and monitor subcontractor activities, including auditing and enforcing Control of Work requirements.
- Ensure the safe execution, quality delivery, and timely completion of subcontract works in line with client and site requirements.
- Support out-of-hours works as required and manage contractors and personal workload with guidance from the Engineering Management Team.
- Isolate plant and manage systems including controls and pump sets.
- Maintain new and existing plant and equipment, ensuring faults and defects are promptly rectified.
- Ensure suitable spare parts are available for both planned maintenance and reactive works.
- Establish estimated timescales for remedial works and repairs.
- Carry out tap temperature checks, flushing, and provide general mechanical support.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and fundamentals, with the ability to operate equipment at full performance.
- Basic controls knowledge with the ability to diagnose and repair non-gas-related issues.
- Ability to fault-find LV / ELV control systems, including monitoring and diagnostics of power quality.
- Experience with plant isolation, system controls, and pump sets.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems (training provided where required).
- IT literate, with the ability to work in real time using a tablet to manage data collection, system updates, and documentation.
Qualifications
- Completed a recognised apprenticeship or Higher Education qualification (C&G or equivalent).
- Ideally Level 3 qualification for individuals undertaking contractor isolations (Level 2 considered on merit depending on discipline).
- Relevant electrical qualifications to work on LV systems.
