Role Purpose

  • We are seeking a skilled and proactive Technician to join our team based in Docklands. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and technical oversight of control systems, plant, and equipment across site facilities, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and legislative standards.

Role Summary

  • Critical Alarm Response: Serve as first responder to critical alarm notifications, liaising with the Client Service Desk team and providing necessary updates.
  • Team Supervision: Support day-to-day coordination of maintenance team activities, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery across data centres.
  • Service Delivery: Ensure timely completion of reactive and planned tasks in line with customer SLAs and expectations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with management to support service delivery objectives.
  • Compliance: Operate in strict accordance with all relevant quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.

Primary Objectives

  • Technical Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients and site staff, ensuring maintenance meets client expectations and statutory requirements.
  • Environmental Control: Maintain and monitor environmental systems, ensuring temperature and humidity levels meet set tolerances in specialist areas.
  • Change Management: Implement change control procedures for documentation, software, and hardware; communicate changes clearly to stakeholders.
  • Alarm Management: Review alarm protocols and recommend improvements to streamline alarm response.
  • Emergency Operations: Support emergency response procedures alongside site and client management.
  • Maintenance & Inspections: Conduct inspections, testing, fault-finding, and planned maintenance of all systems and equipment.
  • Fault Diagnosis: Investigate and resolve faults within mechanical/electrical systems and plant equipment.
  • System Operation: Manage the safe start-up, operation, and shutdown of plant and equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Report compliance-related issues to the Team Leader and assist in meeting statutory obligations.
  • Auditing: Conduct regular technical and quality audits to ensure operational consistency and asset compliance.
  • Technical Support: Contribute to incident investigations, root cause analyses (RCAs), and A3 processes.
  • System Improvements: Identify and propose enhancements to improve system resilience and efficiency.

Main Duties

  • Critical Environment Systems: Oversee maintenance and performance of critical systems to ensure zero downtime in power delivery.
  • Alarm Monitoring: Monitor and respond to BMS and EMS alarms, taking prompt and appropriate action.
  • Infrastructure Oversight: Understand the impact of all M&E works on site operations, especially in live data environments.
  • Procedure Development: Create and maintain site-specific procedures (EOPs, SOPs, MOPs) in line with client standards.
  • Shift Support: Provide backup support to shift teams as required.
  • Alarm Escalation: Make informed escalation decisions based on alarm sequences and the alarm management matrix.
  • Vendor Coordination: Liaise with vendors during callouts and ensure timely updates until issue resolution.
  • System Updates: Update ticketing systems, track BMS issues, and log work in CMMS.
  • Remote Operations: Remotely reset or adjust environmental systems as required by the client or operations team.
  • Energy Efficiency: Analyse Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) data and support energy-saving initiatives.
  • UPS & Battery Reporting: Generate weekly battery monitoring reports and real-time UPS discharge reports during EMEA servicing.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly operational reports for senior stakeholders.
  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor BMS, Mimic panels, and alarm systems.
  • Permit to Work: Oversee and control the site’s permit-to-work system, ensuring compliance and visibility of all active permits.
  • Incident Management: Assess RAMS and access permits to identify potential risks and mitigate where necessary.
  • Switching Schedules: Review and coordinate electrical/mechanical switching for all planned/reactive tasks.
  • Logbook Maintenance: Maintain accurate logbooks in line with System Control protocols.
  • Team Collaboration: Align with Technical Manager and shift teams, attending regular briefings to ensure operational consistency.
  • BMS Calibration: Monitor and maintain accurate calibration of BMS sensors and controls.
  • Training Support: Assist with technician and apprentice training, including running scenario-based mock drills.

Core Competencies & Requirements

  • Qualifications: Completed formal electrical apprenticeship.
  • Experience: Strong background in building services, ideally in critical or data centre environments.
  • cGxP Knowledge: Experience working in controlled Good Practice (cGxP) regulated environments (preferred).
