Our customer is a well-established M&E service provider in the UK & Europe, with a number of commercial maintenance contracts across sectors as diverse as higher education, corporate office space, government, healthcare, and critical engineering. At one of their flagship data centre accounts in Hertfordshire, they seek a multi-skilled M&E Shift Leader to work on a 24/7 continental shift pattern.

As part of a multi-skilled team, the successful candidate will deliver planned and reactive maintenance to electrical, mechanical, and other critical / HVAC plant. Guideline salary for the position is circa £56,000 along with a pension scheme, overtime, and a budget for training.

Candidates must be fully qualified in an engineering discipline, ideally electrical-bias, and have at least five years of experience delivering planned and reactive maintenance in a critical environment. While this will ideally be a data centre, other environments such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, or financial services would also be appropriate. Additional training such as 2391, HV / LV Authorisation, F-Gas, etc., will all be beneficial.

Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Operate all M&E systems within the Data Centre in a competent, effective, and efficient manner (including HV Electrical isolations/operations), making recommendations for improvement and providing concise technical reports when required.
  • Ensuring that all Specialist Sub Contractors conduct works in line with approved Standard Operating Procedures/MOP/PTW/client change requests.
  • Ensure that Specialist Sub Contractor worksheets are signed off where necessary, that quality of work has been inspected, and recommendations are communicated to the DC Engineering/Technical Manager.
  • Provide backup as engineering relief cover in the event of annual leave, training, or other absence within the engineering team, ensuring minimum staffing arrangements are maintained at all times.
  • Accurately report all completed work orders, including precise recording of any critical spares/stock items used during these tasks.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and client meetings as requested, in conjunction with CBRE management.
  • Review and prepare MOP’s, SOP’s, and EOP’s, as well as lead the shift team through relevant EOP scenario drills.
  • Complete the shift handover reports, ensuring that significant events or activities are noted and effectively communicated to oncoming shifts and management.
  • Manage and prioritise operational resources to ensure all Data Centre client requests are attended to within SLA.
  • Champion and promote QHSE compliance activities, such as Hazard/Near Miss Reporting and regular Toolbox Talks.
  • Accountable for compliance with client CEM process and procedures when undertaking all relevant work orders, ensuring risk management documentation (MOP, SOP, or EOP) is in place for all critical works.
  • Liaise with the supply chain when ordering M&E components for remedial works.
  • Proactively attend nominated training courses.
  • Drive a positive culture within the team regarding personal development and training.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with relevant QHSE policy and procedures.
  • Coaching of new employees as part of the onboarding process for new starters.
  • Manage all planned maintenance tasks, ensuring the engineering team delivers PM work allocation on a month-by-month basis.
  • Participation in engineering Quality Assurance process to validate the standards of completed works.

This is a fantastic chance to join a secure and yet still growing account for a well-established M&E service provider who have held this customer account for 10+ years. As such, it is a good place for a technically minded shift leader to join a settled team, local to home in the Hertfordshire area, with the chance for further training and development courses.
