The Role
Purpose Summary: The Senior Finance Business Partner acts as a key financial business partner to Directors and Heads of departments, ensuring that commercial decisions are aligned with both financial and strategic goals. The role is responsible for delivering financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and cost management for revenue and distributions within their area of responsibility.
The Commercial Finance Team in PRS for Music sits within the wider Finance team and business partners all areas within the business from Commercial to Membership Support to Legal. As a team of 12, the Commercial Finance team analyses the monthly performance of the business from a revenue, costs and distributions basis, composing monthly reporting packs for the Executive Leadership Team and members sitting on PRS for Music's Board. The Commercial Finance team are also responsible for leading the process of compiling the bi‐annual forecast and annual budget in which we challenge and support our stakeholders to achieve the goals set out in our 5‐year plan.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to Heads of and Directors, producing robust plans, budgets, forecasts, and executive summary reports—including 5‐year financial plans.
- Act as the main contact for senior stakeholders, managing communication and challenging stakeholders when needed.
- Support strategic decision‐making with financial insights and recommendations.
- Identify business and market insights to inform decisions.
- Act as deputy for the Head of Commercial Finance and cover for other Business Partners during annual leave.
- Share best practices and encourage cross‐functional collaboration.
- Support projects that drive revenue growth or cost reduction.
- Deliver accurate annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and outturns in partnership with the business.
- Challenge budget holders to ensure alignment with strategic goals and sustainable growth.
- Produce and distribute financial analysis and management reports for senior leadership.
- Own long‐term (3–5 years) revenue and distribution planning.
- Enable better decision‐making through actionable management information and trend analysis.
- Identify risks to the Business Unit using management information and trend analysis.
- Communicate performance drivers and their implications to senior leaders.
- Ensure costs are controlled and understood across the business.
- Support the management accounts team during month and year‐end processes.
- Contribute to monthly ELT distribution sign‐off by analyzing variances to budget/forecast.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement within the team.
- Ensure financial controls are implemented and executed.
- Collaborate with other Finance teams to improve financial processes and systems.
