A well-established financial markets firm is looking for a Platform Engineer to help scale and modernise the infrastructure underpinning its technology estate. This is a hands-on role covering cloud infrastructure, job orchestration and data platform engineering. You'll partner with application developers and data engineers to turn evolving requirements into infrastructure that's dependable at scale, and you'll have real input into how the platform evolves as the business grows. This would suit someone with a strong cloud and infrastructure background who enjoys working close to the applications that infrastructure supports, rather than in a purely siloed platform team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run cloud infrastructure on AWS; compute, storage, networking and job scheduling
  • Own the orchestration layer for scheduled and long-running workloads, plus the monitoring and alerting that keeps them observable
  • Design and operate a columnar analytics database at scale, including replication and partitioning strategy
  • Write Java where infrastructure concerns need to live inside the application; metrics, config, calculation runners
  • Lead migration and modernisation projects, weighing cost against performance and rolling changes out without breaking production
  • Act as a sounding board for other engineers on infrastructure and data design decisions

Requirements

  • Strong Java and Python skills, with a track record of writing code that actually ships to production
  • Solid AWS experience
  • Experience with an orchestration tool: Kubernetes or similar
  • Hands-on experience running a columnar/analytical database in production
  • Experience setting up production monitoring and turning metrics into usable alerts
  • Regular use of AI coding tools in your day-to-day work
  • Exposure to more than one business domain or asset class
  • Interest or experience in low-latency or high-throughput systems
  • A track record of leading infrastructure or platform modernisation work
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, still-being-built environment

This is a chance to shape a platform that's still actively growing, with genuine ownership over technical direction rather than just execution.
