Story Behind the Need:

• Business group: Global Network Engineering – UC/Telephony – third level support for telephony infrastructure and telephony project migration (end of life migrations, migration of telephony users to new cloud-based telephony platforms)
• Project: Avaya PBX enterprise user migration – Unified Communication Engineer (Webex)
• Bank is looking for a Unified Communications Cloud Engineer to support our enterprise-wide migration from an on-prem Avaya PBX system to Cisco Webex Cloud UCaaS platform. This role focuses on ensuring a smooth transition of telephony services, preserving key integrations, and aligning with business requirements.

Typical Day in Role:

• Discovery & Planning:
o Review and interpret existing Avaya PBX configurations, including user profiles, call flows, and system integrations.
o Develop a comprehensive migration plan segmented by business lines and locations.
• Design & Documentation:
o Create Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation aligned with the High-Level Design (HLD) and business requirements.
o Call Routing and Dial Plan Design.
o Create Security design documents, firewall rules, and role-based access control.
o Create the support document for day 2 support.
• Implementation & Support:
o Conduct the pre-migration testing.
o Create the MoP and change management.
o Validate the user data from Avaya.
o Execute the user migration through bulk update or related migration tools/scripts. validate successful cutovers (after business hours).
o Use Oracle SBC tools (e.g., Oracle EOM) for root cause analysis and troubleshooting in the Webex production environment.
o Collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues.
o Work with vendors and supporters, i.e. Cisco, Oracle, Avaya, Telco.
• Integration:
o Ensure successful integration with on-prem systems such as Verint Recording system, Workforce Management (WFM), CDR system, Reporting.
o Implementation of E911.
o Single Sign-On (SSO).

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

• 10+ years of telecoms / telephony experience
• 3+ years’ experience with Cisco Webex Cloud, Cisco Webex Control Hub and user migration projects
• 5+ years’ experience with enterprise-scale Avaya CM PBX deployments
• 3+ years’ experience SIP trunking and call routing
• 5+ years’ experience integrating UC platforms with systems like Verint, Custodia, WFM, E911, and SSO

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• Proficiency with Oracle SBC and troubleshooting tools such as Oracle EOM.
• Work experience with IP Network systems and technologies, including, but not limited to Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, IP subnetting.
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification

Soft Skills Required:

• Ability to manage multiple tasks under a tight timeline.
• Superior problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve work issues with the ability to work under pressure.
• Strong communication (verbal/written) and great interpersonal skills to interact with relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors. Able to present to executive level.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, or a related technical field
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification an asset

Best VS. Average Candidate:

• The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Cisco Webex Cloud, working experience on Avaya CM PBX, and hands-on expertise with Oracle SBC and related troubleshooting tools.
• They need to be a concise verbal communicator.
• Note for 10+ years of telecoms / telephony experience, some relevant previous job titles: unified communication engineer, voice communication engineer, voice engineer, network and voice engineer

Candidate Review & Selection:

• 2 rounds:
o 1st virtual MS Teams Video Interview – 30 minutes to 1hour – with HM, Telecommunications Director, and possible another engineer – technical discussion on skillset, scenario-based questions to probe on problem solving and technical ability
o 2nd – preferably in person – 30 minutes to 1hour – with HM, Telecommunications Director, and possible another engineer – clarification between top candidates to probe deeper on skillset and knowledge
