First Available to current Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education administrators who are currently members of PSAANS. Second Available to all applicants who hold a valid Nova Scotia Teaching License, or are eligible for a Nova Scotia Teaching License.

Middleton Regional High School is situated in Middleton, Annapolis County and it includes Grades six (6) to twelve (12). The school has a projected 38.58 full time equivalent teaching positions and a projected enrollment of 537 students for the 2026-2027 school year.

To assist the Principal by providing instructional leadership, ensuring that the Public Schools Program and curriculum are implemented to maximize student learning. The Vice Principal is also responsible for the orderly operation of the school in the absence of the principal and any duties assigned by the principal.

Qualifications and Abilities:
  • A Master’s of Education Degree in instructional/educational leadership or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful instructional leadership at the middle/high school level is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years exemplary teaching experience in a public school.
  • The ability to provide instructional leadership.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community, and outside agencies to better meet the needs of students in the school.
  • The ability to use appropriate communication modes including current technologies.
  • The ability to be a positive contributor to an administrative team.
  • The ability to assist the school staff to achieve the goals and objectives as well as to follow the policies and procedures of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education and the school.
  • The ability and commitment to support staff and educational partners in decision-making by demonstrating an energetic and collaborative leadership style.
  • The ability to assist the principal in creating and maintaining a safe, orderly, positive and effective teaching and learning environment.
Responsibilities:
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to be responsible for the positive, safe, respectful learning and working environment for all stakeholders.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal in establishing a school-wide vision of commitment to high standards and academic success for all students.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal in providing leadership, cultivates leadership in others and manages people, data and processes.
  • The Vice Principal must complete required documents as requested by the Centre and/or the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to identifying staffing needs for the school and to assist in the selection of staff.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students enrolled.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal with supervising school based staff. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the interests of the Centre are maintained by participating with attendance management, performance management and addressing personnel matters.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal and support professional growth through professional development planning and ongoing feedback.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to ensure that appropriate evaluation techniques are used for both students and staff.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal in monitoring the maintenance of systems to handle organizational tasks such as student records, teacher records, attendance, purchasing, budgets and timetables.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to ensure replacement staff are hired when necessary.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to ensure the safety and security of the school.
  • The Vice Principal will assist the Principal to ensure maintenance of financial records and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
