Nurse Extern – NICU at Providence summary: The Nurse Extern in the NICU assists registered nurses in providing patient care and support under supervision in a neonatal intensive care environment. Responsibilities include aiding patients with daily living activities, ensuring patient safety through observation, and supporting clinical procedures and data collection. Description Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Extern assists patients with activities of daily living; provides a safe environment for patients by providing 1:1 observation and care; and, assists staff and patients with select procedures and health interventions, all in a family centered environment. The Extern can also assist in data collection activities (i.e. hand hygiene survalliance, personal protective equipment usage, etc). Providence caregivers are not simply valued – they’re invaluable. National Provider BLS – American Heart Association within 30 days of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Current enrollment in an NLN approved Bachelor of Science nursing program; has successfully completed, at a minimum, the 1st semester of clinicals.
