About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Software Development Team Lead with a strong background in frontend engineering to join a growing product-led tech company operating in the mission-critical intelligence and analytics space.
You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and development of their modern web-based platforms while supporting and mentoring a small, high-performing team (3–4 developers). This is an opportunity for someone who still enjoys hands-on coding, but is ready to lead with impact and help grow a collaborative engineering culture. Prior Leadership Experience is not Essential!
What You’ll Be Doing
- Writing clean, scalable, and efficient frontend code using JavaScript, TypeScript, and React
- Leading a small team — guiding sprint planning, code reviews, and architectural decisions
- Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a high-trust, supportive environment
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including backend engineers, product managers, and designers
- Helping shape technical direction and best practices for frontend development
- Participating in the full software lifecycle, from planning to release and ongoing improvements
- Occasionally travelling to Cambridge for team collaboration (1 day per month, expenses covered)
Tech Stack
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, MobX
- Testing: Jest, Playwright, React Testing Library
- Tooling: GitHub, CircleCI, AWS
- Dev Practices: CI/CD, TDD, accessible and scalable web development
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and React
- Proven background in frontend development, ideally with full-stack exposure
- Passion for clean, maintainable code and UI performance
- Ability to lead and mentor developers, even if informally
- Experience working in remote teams and agile environments
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Location & Remote Setup
This is a remote-first role. We’re especially interested in candidates based in or near Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen), where the client plans to grow a long-term tech presence.
Travel to the Cambridge HQ is required only about once per month, fully expensed.
Benefits
- Up to £75,000 salary, depending on experience
- 25 days annual leave + 5 personal days + bank holidays
- £325 annual lifestyle benefit
- Remote-first working with all travel costs to Cambridge covered
- Access to learning & development resources
- Supportive, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture
