The Role

We are currently recruiting Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across Doncaster, supporting pupils aged 11–16. In this role, you will supervise classes when the regular teacher is absent, ensuring students remain focused and engaged with their work. This position is ideal for confident and resilient individuals who enjoy working with young people and want to make a positive impact in education. No two days are the same; therefore, you will gain valuable experience across a variety of school environments.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing whole classes independently. Although lesson plans will be provided, you will play a vital role in maintaining a calm and productive learning environment. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising full classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • Ensuring students remain on task and follow set instructions
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Acting as a positive and professional role model
  • Reporting back to teaching staff at the end of each lesson

As a result, this role offers more responsibility than a Teaching Assistant, making it an excellent stepping stone into teaching.

Training and Ongoing Support

To help you succeed, full training is provided before you start. In addition, you will receive continued support throughout your placement. This includes:

  • Online training delivered via Microsoft Teams by a former Headteacher
  • Opportunities to shadow experienced Cover Supervisors
  • Ongoing guidance and support once placed in schools

Requirements

Essential requirements include:

  • A confident and engaging personality
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to work with students aged 11–16
  • A calm, assertive, and professional approach
  • A commitment to safeguarding, including an Enhanced DBS check

Although not essential, the ability to drive is advantageous, as it allows you to work across multiple school locations.

Why Apply?

This role offers an excellent entry route into education. Furthermore, it is particularly suited to aspiring teachers, graduates, or individuals with previous school experience. Benefits include:

  • Hands-on classroom experience
  • Exposure to a variety of school settings
  • A rewarding role where you can make a real difference
  • Valuable experience to support future teaching or education careers

If you are confident, adaptable, and ready to take on a dynamic role within secondary schools, we would love to hear from you. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills while positively impacting young people’s education.
