A Staff Podiatrist position is available at Braintree Community Hospital, NHS AfC, Band 6, Permanent, Part-time (15 hours per week, Wednesday required). Salary ranges from £39,959 to £48,117 per annum. Closing date for applications is 03/07/2026.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high standard clinical care and perioperative assessment as part of the Podiatric Surgery Team.
- Contribute to development of surgical care plans and administer advanced regional anaesthesia (ankle and popliteal blocks).
- Assist in preparation and peri-operative care of surgical patients.
- Request diagnostic tests including bloods and imaging.
- Undertake cardio-vascular and lower limb vascular assessment using Doppler, ABPI, TBPI and neurological assessment.
- Lead collection and administration of audit and PASCOM data.
- Administer advanced local anaesthetic injections (digital, ankle, popliteal regional blocks).
- Prescribe/issue appropriate peri-operative medicines to optimise patients pre/intra/post surgery.
- Prepare patients for theatre with the nursing team.
- Act as assistant in theatre where appropriate.
- Apply/remove appropriate aircast, vacocast and plaster casts.
- Coordinate discharge process from surgical units and undertake post-operative patient care.
- Monitor post-operative progress and wound management including debridement, washouts, re-suturing, gluing and redressings.
- Manage cast, suture and wire removal.
- Advise on physical therapy techniques, scar and swelling management, and overall rehabilitation.
- Monitor for signs of post-operative complications (infection, deep vein thrombosis, complex regional pain syndrome) and coordinate onward referral to acute services.
- Effect discharge of patient with appropriate follow-on advice and realistic expectations.
- Take charge of all patient literature, PASCOM and stock control ordering.
Person Specification:
- Essential criteria: Degree in Podiatric Medicine, Local Anaesthetic Qualification, Minimum 2 years post-registration in the NHS.
- Desirable criteria: Experience working with a Podiatric Surgery Team, Non-Medical Prescribing or working towards, IRMER competence.
Continuing Professional Development:
- Essential: Evidence of CPD Portfolio.
- Desirable: Cannulation and IV administration certificate.
