Overview
Our children\\\’s centre is based at Stapleford House in Chelmsford. We offer visits in schools/nurseries and home visits where appropriate, working in partnership with the child\\\’s wider support network including teaching staff and family/carers. The service provides training opportunities, regular supervision and appraisals, and some online services.
Responsibilities
- To gain consent and undertake occupational therapy assessment, clinically diagnose, formulate and implement treatment plans using specialist knowledge and experience, including treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects people\\\’s choice, privacy, dignity and individuality.
- To obtain information relevant to patient care, recognise when goals are met or achievable, and ensure appropriate discharge/ongoing care.
- To provide hands-on treatment and demonstrate highly developed observational skills for assessment and therapeutic handling to facilitate movement and development of physical skills and function. Present treatment programmes and developmentally appropriate play and approaches according to the child\\\’s age. Utilise a wide range of treatment skills to formulate and carry out a care programme adapted to non-clinical settings.
- With knowledge of paediatric conditions and treatment modalities to interpret and analyse clinical facts using advanced clinical reasoning and problem solving to form accurate diagnoses and recommend the best course of intervention.
- To interpret non-clinical facts based on risk assessment and ongoing changes in each individual\\\’s circumstances.
- To use outcome measures, where available, to evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify plans accordingly. To work in homes, schools or other appropriate settings in line with service requirements.
- To present treatment programmes and developmentally appropriate play and approaches according to the child\\\’s age; utilise a wide range of treatment skills to formulate and carry out a programme of care in non-clinical settings.
- To have knowledge and understanding of children\\\’s services and processes as provided by Health, Education, Social Care and the Voluntary Sector.
- To assess and provide therapy programmes for children with ASD and other sensory difficulties.
- To undertake risk assessments for children regarding manual handling and share with parents/carers and school.
Qualifications and Experience
- Professional UK clinical registration (where required) and relevant experience in paediatric settings.
- Knowledge of a wide range of paediatric conditions and treatment modalities; ability to interpret clinical facts and determine appropriate interventions.
