Overview
The post holder will support the Suffolk Sexual Health team in designing and delivering health promotion (HP) and behaviour change communication (BCC) interventions tailored to the needs of young people and seldom heard from communities, including people of African/Caribbean heritage, commercial sex workers (CSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and other groups at increased risk of poor sexual health outcomes. Delivery will be through community engagement approaches that tackle HIV-related stigma and discrimination, increasing knowledge and awareness of sexual health and HIV, promoting testing and the benefits of early HIV diagnosis, access to care and treatment, and uptake of broader sexual health services across Suffolk.
The post holder may be required to undertake comprehensive training to achieve Assistant Practitioner (AP) competencies to offer HIV point of care testing (POCT) for HIV, syphilis and other sexually transmitted infections in a community setting, following safeguarding procedures and information governance policies.
The role requires working closely with professionals, organisations, stakeholders and local communities to meet the needs of key target groups most at risk of poor sexual health and HIV outcomes. The post holder will represent Suffolk Sexual Health Service and partner organisations at public and professional networking events and meetings. Although based in Ipswich, the post holder will support service delivery across wider Suffolk and must have access to a car and a full driverβs license.
This role will require the successful applicant to undergo a DBS check.

Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted HP/BCC outreach interventions to relevant communities, including HIV & STI testing, health promotion (HIV awareness), inter-faith/faith-based work, GP engagement, campaign delivery/social marketing aligned with regional and national HIV prevention programmes, with HIV stigma reduction embedded.
- Work closely with people from seldom heard communities, tailoring approaches to meet the needs of groups and individuals.
- Deliver outreach and tailored interventions with young people in Suffolk to increase knowledge around Relationships and Sex Education (RSHE) and access to the SSHS.
- Raise professional and public awareness of key sexual health topics by delivering training for professionals and community education sessions (virtual and face-to-face) with a sex-positive approach.
- Achieve AP competencies to offer HIV/Syphilis POCT and other testing in community settings, adhering to safeguarding, information governance and policies.
- Support educational establishments, parents/carers, and other professionals in delivering RSHE, including direct delivery and upskilling to carry out interventions (face-to-face, webinars, and live web broadcasting).
- Maintain systems to monitor and record HP/BCC interventions, ensuring high-quality data entry and contributing data for service monitoring reports.
- Establish and maintain relationships with partner agencies and professionally represent SSHS with target populations and providers, adhering to SSHS values and policies.
- Engage diverse communities using methods such as social media, radio, TV, community events, and visits to venues and public sex environments.
- Manage resource availability to ensure HP/BCC interventions can be delivered across the team.
- Collaborate with the Provided marketing department to create social media resources and other marketing content for the service.
- Utilise service user involvement activities (focus groups, surveys, etc.) to capture views from people of Suffolk and inform SSHS service shaping.
- Work with the co-production and user involvement team to gain local insight and shape service delivery.
- Manage own workload, calendars and leave records, and inform the line manager of changes in personal circumstances.
- Maintain ongoing self-led education relevant to the role, keeping up with local and national campaigns and statistics related to sexual health and HIV.
- Assist with campaigns and events such as World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Week, Sexual Health Week, LGBT+ History Month, Pride, Black History Month and other promotions.
- Deliver a condom distribution service to increase access to condoms and lubrication for seldom heard communities and those at increased risk.
- Work flexibly to meet evolving needs of the service across a wide geographical area, including evenings and weekends as required.
