Job Summary

This role is for a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner within the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy Team at Provide Community Interest Company (CIC), based at Braintree Community Hospital. The role supports rehabilitation programmes for patients with musculoskeletal conditions, working both individually and in group settings, under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapists.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Work under the management of Physiotherapists and manage own caseload effectively.
  • Assess, plan and implement rehabilitation programmes to delegated patient caseload, working towards SMART rehabilitation goals.
  • Deliver rehabilitation in clinical/outpatient, exercise, gym, or virtual settings.
  • Assess response to therapy programmes and advise on appropriate actions or when to seek input from a registered clinician.
  • Implement tailored exercise and other therapy programmes to enable patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals.
  • Provide advice and education to optimise health, wellbeing and encourage self‑management of conditions.
  • Accept delegated patients from Physiotherapists and deliver treatment according to agreed care plans, protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Work independently within defined competencies while maintaining regular communication with the supervising Physiotherapist and the wider MSK team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Therapy Support, Rehab, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development and training.

Desirable

  • Care Certificate.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapy Assistant, Rehabilitation Assistant or a similar role within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting patients with exercise programmes and rehabilitation activities.
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within an MSK Physiotherapy service.
  • Experience leading exercise classes or rehabilitation groups.
  • Experience undertaking delegated follow‑up appointments.
  • Experience using SystmOne or other NHS electronic patient record systems.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and rehabilitation principles.
  • Understanding of the role and responsibilities of Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants.
  • Awareness of professional boundaries and when to seek support from a registered clinician.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of behaviour change techniques and self‑management approaches.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic patient record systems.
  • Ability to deliver exercise programmes in both one‑to‑one and group settings.

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
