We're building the trusted product data layer for the future of commerce, and we want you to help us do it! Provenance powers the infrastructure that helps 300+ global brands and retailers including Holland & Barrett, Ocado, THG, and MECCA, become discoverable and credible to shoppers, LLMs, and AI agents that are rapidly reshaping how consumers buy. Our mission is as ambitious as it gets: to empower 1 billion citizens to choose products that match their values. That means cutting through greenwashing, making verified sustainability and ethics claims a genuine driver of purchase decisions by trust.

Now really is a pivotal moment to join us under the leadership of our new CEO Sarah Arana‑Morton, we're entering our next phase of growth: scaling our platform for agentic commerce, expanding our customer base, and laying the foundations for long‑term, systematic impact.

The Role

We’re looking for a Product Engineer who’s AI‑first in how you think and build, you thrive with real autonomy and you’re energised by the scale of what’s ahead. With a product first mindset, you’ll work closely across our tight‑knit team of 15 with Engineering, Product and Commercial, and you’ll have genuine scope to shape how we build. This is a role with real purpose baked in! You believe technology can drive systemic change for people, for the planet and you want your day job to prove it. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.

  • Design, build, and maintain our core web application, API’s and data infrastructure.
  • Work with LLMs and ML methods to automate data operations and shape the AI‑first customer experience we’re building towards.
  • Own the full product lifecycle, from idea and prototype through to shipping and measuring real customer impact.
  • Provide technical leadership and contribute directly to product strategy – your voice will shape how we build.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly, to both internal teams and external stakeholders, and support product demos, technical integrations, and customer implementations.
  • Stay genuinely curious, tracking industry developments and bringing the best tools and thinking to the problems we’re solving.

Your Experience

  • 3‑5 years building production software as a polyglot engineer, comfortable across JavaScript, Ruby, or Python, and not precious about picking up what the problem demands.
  • Proven ability to design and architect scalable, web‑based systems that solve real business challenges, from greenfield builds to refactoring legacy code.
  • Experienced working lean and iteratively in small teams, you know how to distill complex requirements into shipped features, fast.
  • A strong grasp of modern web application stacks and the architectural thinking to make the right calls under pressure.
  • Actively using AI in your own workflow today, with genuine ambition to push further as the technology evolves.
  • Recent experience of working collaboratively in agile, start‑up environments where you’ve had to build, learn and adapt quickly.

The Technology Core:

  • Ruby on Rails, Hotwire, Preact, Heroku
  • Data & ML: Python, Spark, SQL – increasingly powered by ML and LLMs

How we work:

  • Open‑source technologies, test‑driven development, CI/CD, peer code review via pull requests

Familiarity with these is a plus, but it’s not what we’re hiring for. We care far more about your ability to write clean, effective code, pick up new languages quickly and apply the right tool to the right problem.

Salary £60k – £80k basic salary depending on experience. Employee share option program (own a part of Provenance!) 25 days annual holiday + birthday off + long‑term service holiday benefits. £1,000 annual learning and development budget. Wellbeing allowance (£50 per quarter). Access to YuLife Wellbeing Platform with 24 Virtual GP access and Employee Assistance Programme. Generous enhanced parental leave policies. Flexible working options (hybrid with 2 days per week at our HQ in Euston London, slow‑travel incentives, compressed hours options and work from anywhere policy). Team workshops, monthly socials, team volunteering and more! Join our next 2‑day team retreat and summer party in Norfolk, June 2026.

We are proudly Certified B‑Corp and a 2021 Escape the City Top 100 winner.
