We are working with a long-standing client of over 22 years, a financially strong and growing sportswear and streetwear brand house, known for its collaborative culture, creative ambition, and long-term approach to building teams. They are now looking to appoint an Assistant Designer to join their design team, working across performance sport, activewear, and streetwear categories. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a broad range of projects and bespoke collections, working closely with senior designers in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

This role is predominantly womenswear-focused, with ad hoc involvement in menswear as required. You will support the senior team across the full design process, from research and concept development through to technical design and seasonal range build. You will be designing collections for the UK and European markets, working across the following brands: HUNTER, REEBOK, TED BAKER SPORT, VERA WANG ATHLEISURE, SERGIO TACCHINI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research seasonal trends and key items across sport, streetwear, and activewear.
  • Prepare creative research on themes, colours, and fabrics aligned to seasonal briefs.
  • Develop original design sketches and technical specifications for all styles.
  • Create and maintain colour, mood, and trend boards.
  • Work closely with the Senior Designer to support seasonal range builds.
  • Maintain accurate records of design and development details for each style.
  • Produce detailed spec sheets and technical packs.
  • Follow range plans and critical paths, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Stay up to date with womenswear, menswear, and sportswear trends, silhouettes, fabrics, and finishes.

Experience & Skills Required

  • 1–2 years’ experience in an Apparel Design role within fashion, lifestyle, sportswear, performance, or outdoor categories.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft packages.
  • Experience taking designs from research and initial concepts through to development and technical drawings.
  • Ability to design independently while supporting senior designers.
  • Strong understanding of garment and fabric construction, with knowledge of pattern cutting.
  • Excellent eye for detail, colour, and proportion.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and confident communicator.
  • Broad cultural interest, with a passion for fashion, sport, music, and the arts.

Role Details & Benefits

  • Location: London and Watford (based in one office with weekly travel to the other; additional travel costs reimbursed by the employer).
  • Working hours: 9:00am – 5:30pm.
  • Office-based: 5 days per week during probation.
  • Post-probation: Up to 1 day working from home, at the company’s discretion (non-contractual).
  • Salary: Excellent market rate.
  • Annual bonus.
  • Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Additional discretionary closure between Christmas and New Year.
