Freelance Women’s Loungewear Designer

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Women’s Loungewear Designer to develop a focused collection that combines comfort, quality, and commercial appeal. This is a freelance project role, ideally suited to someone who has already designed loungewear ranges for UK high-street and department store retailers such as John Lewis, TK Maxx, Next, M&S, or similar.
The role requires a deep understanding of the loungewear category — from fabric qualities and sizing standards to the nuances of fit, silhouette, and trend direction. You will be responsible for creating a cohesive collection that balances design creativity with commercial viability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a women’s loungewear collection from concept through to final range.
- Research trends, fabrics, colours, and consumer preferences specific to loungewear.
- Produce sketches, CADs, and technical packs for sampling and production.
- Ensure designs meet quality, fit, and sizing standards suitable for large UK retailers.
- Liaise with product development, sourcing, and buying teams to align with timelines and cost parameters.
- Deliver a balanced range plan with attention to product mix, price points, and market positioning.
- Adapt designs based on feedback and ensure samples are production-ready.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing women’s loungewear collections for recognised UK retailers (e.g. John Lewis, TK Maxx, Next, Debenhams, M&S, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of fabrications, knitwear, fleece, jersey, and woven materials relevant to loungewear.
- Understanding of UK retail sizing, grading, and garment construction.
- Proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, CLO 3D or similar).
- Excellent eye for colour, proportion, and detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and deliver a commercially relevant collection.
