Overview
Our client, an international fashion brand-house, is looking for an experienced Garment Technologist. Join the global product team of a leading athletic sportswear brand, celebrated for its innovative designs and quality.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with designers and Product developers to turn design concepts into physical garments.
- Receiving overviews from designers and creating specs/workbooks to provide to product developers for submission to factories.
- Preparing and measuring of protos, pre-bulk, SMS, PPS and shipment samples before fit sessions.
- Creating specs/workbooks for inline collections and SMUs.
- Reviewing and maintaining all grade rules for men’s and women’s per product category. Conducting fittings on models or mannequins to make necessary adjustments.
- Leading fit meetings with designers and PDs translating the comments to overseas factories advising clear, commercial solutions including pictures.
- Reviewing samples and making recommendations for improvements.
- Setting and maintaining quality standards for garments, ensuring consistency in production.
- Ensuring that garments are inspected and tested for technology, durability, functionality, and safety.
- Working with factories to ensure garment fit and sizing are accurate.
- Approving or revising samples at each stage of production.
- Ensuring production timelines are met and troubleshooting any manufacturing issues.
- Ensuring factories meet quality and ethical standards.
- Keeping in mind that any size changes will impact the cost, so line manager should be informed.
- Ensuring all garments comply with relevant safety regulations, labelling standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues, such as fabric performance, sizing discrepancies, or production delays.
- Recommending solutions to improve product durability, comfort, and appearance.
- Maintaining a style tracker for all approvals and comments for each season/buyer.
Personal specifications
- 4+ years’ prior experience in Garment Technologist role.
- Technical training and understanding of pattern cutting.
- Strong knowledge of fabric, garment construction, technical drawing, measuring and fitting.
- Good understanding of garment construction, textiles and the manufacturing process.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage own time and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Problem solving mind-set.
- Building relationships is key to this role. Internal relationships with product and design teams. External relationships with supply base, technical labs and SMU partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly MS Excel.
- Experience working with sportswear product is preferable but not essential.
