This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished and inspirational leader to join Devon County Council as Assistant Director – North & East Devon.

As a key member of our Adult Social Care senior leadership team, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across North and East Devon, helpingto shape and deliver high-quality integrated adult social care services that improve outcomes for local people.

The post is graded at £82,225 and forms a key part of the Adult Social Care senior leadership structure.

Working directly to the Deputy Director of Integrated Adult Social Care, you will lead large-scale adult social care operations across North and East Devon, driving performance, transformation and innovation while ensuring the delivery of the Council’s priorities and statutory responsibilities.

The role also represents Devon within the wider Integrated Care System (ICS), providing strategic leadership across organisational boundaries and building strong partnerships with NHS colleagues, providers and community stakeholders.

As Assistant Director, you will oversee a diverse portfolio that includes care management services, safeguarding, support arrangements and hospital discharge functions across North and East Devon.

You will lead substantial operational services, managing a complex workforce of approximately 500 staff through a team of Community Service Managers and a Deputy Assistant Director.

You will play a leading role in service redesign, workforce development, quality improvement and system leadership, ensuring services remain responsive, sustainable and focused on delivering excellent outcomes for the people of Devon.

The role carries significant responsibility for performance, governance, financial stewardship and partnership working, including leadership of high-risk and high-cost services.

This is an exciting opportunity to help drive transformational change across adult social care whilst contributing to the future development of integrated services across Devon’s communities.

We are seeking a leader with

  • . A relevant degree and/or professional qualification.
  • . Substantial senior management experience within adult social care services.
  • . Extensive operational knowledge of adult social care and integrated service delivery.
  • . Experience of leading large-scale transformation and service redesign programmes.
  • . Strong financial and budget management expertise.
  • . Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • . The ability to build effective partnerships across health, social care and community organisations.
  • . Experience of leading and inspiring large multidisciplinary teams.
  • . A commitment to person-centred practice, quality improvement and positive outcomes for people who use services and their carers.
