Working with individuals who require direct care and support, you will be in charge of helping them maintain their independence and overall well-being. You will assist residents with personal care needs and improve their social and emotional welfare.

Compensation

On average you can expect to earn £10.70 to £11.00 an hour, depending on the employer. Work schedules may be full-time, part-time, nights or weekends only.

Entry Requirements

Relevant experience is not essential; full training is provided. If you are caring, compassionate and have good communication skills, a care assistant role could be for you. Many people bring their own personal experience of caring, as well as transferable skills and life experience.

There are free training courses available to support you into employment and to progress your career in care. You can also enter the sector via the direct apprenticeship route.

You will complete an induction and may complete the new Level 2 Care Certificate. Opportunities for continuing professional development include qualifications such as dementia, end of life, autism care, learning disabilities, mental health and more.

Apprenticeships are available to develop knowledge from Level 2 Adult Care Worker up to Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care, ranging from 18 months to 3 years. Further apprenticeship or degree routes, such as Nursing Associate or Occupational Therapist, are also possible.
