The Role

As a Community Occupational Therapist within the Care Direct Plus Team, you will deliver a person-centred service through specialist clinical assessment, in line with relevant health and social care legislation and policy. You will manage your own caseload and work independently across a range of settings. The role combines core occupational therapy practice with the development of specialist skills in moving and handling. While experience in this area is important, a keen interest and willingness to build knowledge and skills are equally valued. There is an opportunity to undertake a formal Train the Trainer qualification to support your professional development in moving and handling practice. Ongoing learning and development are actively supported, including access to CPD, training, and partnership working with equipment providers. Working closely with individuals and their carers is central to the role. You will support carers to build confidence in the use of equipment and techniques, promoting independence and achieving positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking specialist moving and handling assessments and reviews predominantly within community settings.
• Work holistically to assess all aspects of an individual’s needs, circumstances, and environment.
• Prescribe and implement effective, person-centred and cost-effective interventions, including the provision of specialist equipment and care packages.
• Collaborate closely with individuals and formal and informal carers, supporting them to develop confidence in the use of techniques and equipment to promote independence.
• Liaise with and refer to other professionals to ensure individuals access appropriate services and receive coordinated support.
• Manage a caseload, including highly complex cases, in line with relevant legal frameworks and professional standards.
• Work autonomously, demonstrating high levels of problem-solving, decision-making, and independent clinical judgement in a range of settings.
• Contribute to and engage in innovative and collaborative working approaches across health and social care.
