Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default
At Proton, we believe that privacy is a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of democracy. Since our inception in 2014, founded by a team of scientists from CERN, we have dedicated ourselves to providing free and open-source technology to millions worldwide, ensuring access to privacy, security, and freedom online.
Our journey began with Proton Mail, the largest secure email service globally, and has since expanded to include Proton VPN, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass. These tools empower individuals and organizations to take control of their personal data, break away from Big Tech’s invasive practices, and defeat censorship. Our work impacts hundreds of millions of lives, from activists on the front lines defending freedom to leaders in governments protecting sensitive information. In some cases, Proton’s services have even been instrumental in saving lives by enabling secure and private communications in high-risk situations.
Proton today supports over 100 million user accounts with a growing team of over 500 people from over 50 different countries, from the world\’s top companies and universities. We value intelligence, learning potential, and ambition in our hiring process. Adaptability is key as we navigate uncharted territories and redefine how business is conducted online. We believe smaller teams of exceptional talent will always prevail over larger teams with lower talent density. Proton has become profitable and reached scale without relying upon VC funding, largely due to superior talent that allows us to do things faster, more creatively, and more efficiently.
We have a global mindset and big ambitions but remain a start-up at heart. We value empowerment and flexibility and keep our structure flat to keep moving fast and avoid unnecessary politics. The role:
We are looking for a senior B2B marketer to define and lead the B2B marketing strategy across Proton’s full suite of privacy-focused products. You will play a critical role in shaping how thousands of businesses—starting with prosumers and entrepreneurs to small and mid-size SMBs—discover, evaluate, and adopt Proton’s secure communications and cloud tools.
This role is ideal for someone coming from a smaller B2B or SaaS company who has experience building marketing capabilities from scratch and thrives in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments. You’ll lead everything from defining the overall B2B marketing strategy to getting into the details of what content to build and which channels to test. You will also help shape how we build our new B2B marketing team and outbound sales motion, working closely with our Chief Operating Officer and other senior leaders. You must be comfortable managing executive stakeholders, negotiating priorities, and juggling multiple workstreams across a complex and rapidly evolving product portfolio.
What you will do:
- Define audience segmentation, messaging, and positioning for the prosumer, entrepreneur, small business, and mid-market buyer.
- Own and develop the go-to-market strategy for Proton’s B2B offerings across email, VPN, file storage, password management, and calendar.
- Build and scale B2B marketing programs from the ground up, focused on demand generation.
- Guide and prioritize the development of high-impact marketing content and experiments with new channels to identify what works.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Operating Officer and executive leadership on strategic decisions and new initiatives.
- Shape how we build the B2B marketing team and outbound sales team.
- Communicate effectively with executive stakeholders and serve as a strategic thought partner across product, sales, customer success, and marketing.
- Establish KPIs and deliver clear reporting on campaign effectiveness and business impact.
What we need from you:
- 10+ years of experience in B2B marketing, ideally at a smaller SaaS company where you built capabilities from scratch.
- Experience targeting and converting prosumers, entrepreneurs, and SMBs, with a path to mid-market scale.
- Proven success developing full-funnel marketing programs that deliver leads and revenue.
- Executive presence and experience managing up to senior leadership.
- Comfortable defining strategy while also rolling up your sleeves to execute.
- Strong understanding of go-to-market fundamentals, including segmentation, positioning, content, and demand gen.
- Skilled at navigating multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and driving cross-functional alignment.
- Hands-on, analytical, and deeply customer-centric.
- Passion for building privacy-focused technology that makes a meaningful impact.
Nice to haves:
- Experience working with MSPs and resellers
- Team management experience
Even if you don’t meet all the requirements listed above, but feel you could still be a great fit, please still apply.
