Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default. Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we've built the world's largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar — tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe.
The Organic Acquisition Team owns SEO, ASO, and content strategy across all Proton products, with a current primary focus on Proton VPN and Proton Mail. We operate across 30+ markets in multiple languages, and the ASO function sits at the intersection of mobile product, design, and web acquisition strategy.
This role is the first dedicated ASO Lead at Proton — meaning you'll be building the function, not inheriting a playbook. You'll work closely with the SEO, Product, Design, and Growth Engineering teams. The right fit is someone who moves quickly, owns results end-to-end, and is energised by the scale and complexity of a multilingual, multi-product environment.
What You'll Do
- Own ASO strategy across Google Play and the Apple App Store for Proton VPN and Proton Mail — from keyword architecture to metadata optimisation to creative testing.
- Build and scale metadata localisation across 30+ markets, coordinating with regional translators to improve keyword rankings in priority languages including Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, and German.
- Drive install conversion rate improvements through structured creative asset testing — working with Design to iterate on screenshots, app icons, and preview videos based on A/B test results and market-specific insights.
- Define ASO KPIs, build the reporting infrastructure, and own the measurement and experimentation cadence across both stores.
- Identify and prioritise new market opportunities through competitive analysis, store performance data, and market research — then execute on them.
- Align ASO and SEO strategies so that keyword targeting, landing pages, and content campaigns form a unified organic acquisition funnel.
- Own Proton's ASO tooling stack — evaluate, implement, and maintain the tools and workflows that enable scalable, multi-product, multilingual execution.
Who You Are
- 5+ years of hands-on ASO experience with a documented record of improving app rankings, impressions, and install conversion rates across both iOS and Android.
- Deep knowledge of the Google Play and Apple App Store ecosystems — including ranking algorithms, metadata rules, creative asset specifications, and native A/B testing frameworks.
- Proven track record scaling ASO across 10+ markets and multiple languages, with experience managing localisation workflows at scale.
- Strong analytical skills — comfortable owning KPI definition, measurement, and experiment design using App Store Connect, Google Play Console, Firebase, and/or comparable analytics platforms.
- Hands-on experience with dedicated ASO tooling (AppTweak, SensorTower, Mobile Action, AppFollow, or equivalent).
Nice to Have
- Working fluency in Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, or German.
- Experience bridging ASO and SEO strategy to build a unified organic acquisition funnel.
