Are you a passionate Maths Tutor looking for a role where your teaching can genuinely make a difference?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2 within a prison education environment. This is a unique opportunity to help learners develop essential maths skills, gain recognised qualifications and build confidence for future employment and life beyond custody.
The Role
As a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to small groups of adult learners from a variety of educational backgrounds and abilities.
You will use innovative teaching methods and learner-centred approaches to make maths accessible, engaging and relevant, supporting learners to achieve meaningful outcomes and progress towards their goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Conduct initial assessments and identify learners' starting points.
- Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons tailored to learner needs.
- Support learners to achieve qualifications and improve confidence in maths.
- Prepare learners for assessments and examinations.
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Support learners requiring additional learning support and reasonable adjustments.
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure positive learner outcomes.
About You
We are looking for a committed and passionate educator who believes in the power of learning to transform lives.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in Maths or equivalent.
- Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
- Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths qualifications.
- Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners with varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education.
- Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools.
- Knowledge of educational quality standards and inspection frameworks.
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to work towards one.
