We are looking for an enthusiastic Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join an education team at HMP Whitemoor. This role offers the chance to support learners in developing valuable maths skills, gaining qualifications and building confidence to progress towards further education, training and employment opportunities.
The Role
As a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to small groups of adult learners from a range of educational backgrounds and abilities.
Using creative teaching methods and learner-focused approaches, you will help learners overcome barriers to education, improve their numeracy skills and achieve nationally recognised qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Conduct initial assessments and identify learner starting points.
- Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality maths lessons.
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Prepare learners for assessments and examinations.
- Support learners with additional learning needs and reasonable adjustments.
- Promote confidence in maths and encourage learner participation.
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support positive learner outcomes.
About You
We are seeking a committed and passionate educator with a genuine enthusiasm for Maths and learner development.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Maths qualification or equivalent.
- Teaching qualification
- Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths qualifications.
- Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education.
- Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools.
- Knowledge of education quality standards and inspection frameworks.
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification.
- Confidence, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for Maths.
