We are looking for a skilled and motivated Carpentry Tutor to join the education team at HMP Feltham. In this role, you will deliver engaging, hands-on carpentry training to small groups of learners, helping them develop practical trade skills, knowledge, and workplace behaviours. You will support learners in building confidence, achieving qualifications, and working towards future employment within the construction industry. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your trade experience to positively impact lives and support learners in achieving long-term goals.
Prison education plays a key role in rehabilitation by equipping individuals with skills and qualifications that support successful reintegration into society. You will work with adult learners who may have experienced barriers to education but are motivated to develop new skills. With smaller class sizes and a structured environment, you can deliver meaningful, practical learning that leads to real opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver practical and engaging carpentry training sessions
- Teach core skills aligned to industry standards
- Develop and implement structured learning plans
- Support learners with advice, guidance, and progression
- Use a range of teaching methods to engage and motivate learners
- Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate learner records and meet quality standards
- Level 3 qualification in Carpentry (essential)
- Strong vocational/trade experience in carpentry
- Experience delivering vocational or practical training (desirable)
- Ability to engage learners using a variety of teaching approaches
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Passion for helping learners develop skills and confidence
- Desirable: Teaching or assessing qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, TAQA)
