Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with behavioural and emotional needs on a 1:1 basis? Protocol Education are working in partnership with a specialist provision in Newham to recruit a Permanent 1:1 Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient, compassionate, and proactive individual who is committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning and thrive within education. You will be working closely with pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support, providing consistency, encouragement, and structure throughout the school day.

The role will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with behavioural, SEMH, and additional learning needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies in line with individual support plans
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom to access learning
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent, and positive manner
  • Encouraging social development, confidence, and independence
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals

To be successful, you will need:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural or SEMH needs
  • Experience working in schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care, mentoring, or sports coaching
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour support
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain consistent, professional, and proactive in challenging situations
