We are recruiting a Psychology Graduate SEN Support Assistant to work within a specialist education setting in South Shields, supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs. This role provides hands-on experience supporting pupils who require emotional regulation, behaviour support and consistent adult guidance to access education successfully. You will work closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams to support pupils throughout the school day, both academically and emotionally.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Helping pupils manage emotions, anxiety and behaviour
  • Supporting engagement with learning activities
  • Observing and responding to emotional and behavioural triggers
  • Supporting transitions, routines and structured interventions
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional resilience

This role is ideal for psychology graduates considering careers in education, mental health or psychology. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
