We’re working with a forward-thinking secondary academy looking for an ambitious and inspiring Head of Geography to lead and develop the department from Years 7 to 11. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or current middle leader who wants to shape curriculum, drive outcomes, and support colleagues to deliver outstanding Geography education.

The role

As Head of Geography, you’ll be the curriculum lead for the subject, working closely with SLT to ensure pupils receive a high-quality, engaging, and ambitious Geography curriculum. You’ll lead, support, and coach your team, creating a department culture where both staff and pupils thrive.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Geography department, ensuring excellent teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4
  • Support, coach, and develop teachers within the department to deliver high-quality lessons
  • Plan and teach engaging Geography lessons in line with agreed schemes of work
  • Track pupil progress and implement timely interventions to support achievement
  • Analyse performance data and develop action plans to drive improvement
  • Ensure staff are fully up to date with specifications and examination requirements
  • Manage departmental resources effectively to maximise student progress
  • Lead department meetings and collaborative planning
  • Uphold academy policies, routines, behaviour expectations, and safeguarding procedures
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including pastoral responsibilities where required
