Protocol Education are currently recruiting for a Speech & Language Teaching Assistant to support students within a secondary school in Middlesbrough from September. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with an interest in speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). The successful candidate will provide targeted support to secondary-aged students, working on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to help students develop their communication skills, confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students
  • Support students with speech, language and communication needs
  • Help students develop their communication, confidence and social skills
  • Deliver or support targeted interventions as directed by teaching staff or specialists
  • Adapt support to meet individual students' needs
  • Encourage students to engage positively with learning
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO and other support staff
  • Monitor and provide feedback on student progress
  • Promote independence and positive behaviour

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people is desirable
  • Experience with speech, language or communication needs would be advantageous
  • Patient, empathetic and able to build strong relationships with students
  • Confident supporting both 1:1 and small-group activities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, proactive and adaptable
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students with additional needs
